About the Yuggera People

The Yuggera people Yuggera (also written Jagera, Yagara, Ugarapul or Yugarabul) people are Traditional Owners whose Country covers large parts of the greater Brisbane region, south and south-west of the Brisbane River through Ipswich, Logan and the Brisbane Valley. Yuggera speakers maintained close cultural connections with neighbouring groups and together are recognised as custodians of the land and waters around Ipswich and western Brisbane. Yuggera people continue language revitalisation, lead Welcome to Country and ceremonies, and are active in community organisations and land-care and heritage projects across this region.
